Sihr Treatment

If someone is under black magic effects, and he wants to reverse the spell so that it affects the person who has cast it on him, so he can do this with the help of the Quraan verses.

One important thing is that, if someone has got a talisman from the magician for this spell, then you can use the reversal spell, otherwise, if the magician himself has done this spell on you then dont do this reversal spell. because you cannot defeat the magician yourself. If you try it and you dont know much about it, then you will suffer at the hands of the magician. Because the magician has jinnat and they help him.

If you reverse the spell on the magician then he will order the jinnat to again reverse the spell on you. Because he will know what you are doing.

The magician has the help of the king of jinnat and a lot of other jinnat who help him and are at his service. These jinnat can reverse any spell 24 hours all the time. Even if you bring a lot of other people and try to reverse the spell, you wont be able to harm the magician because he has 1000s of jinnat to help him, and they also have an alim jin who teaches them all kinds of magical spells. He has solutions to all kinds of reversal spells. That’s why be cautious while doing this spell.

If its some simple magician, and he does not have any jinn then you can do this reversal spell yourself. But if he has arvah and jinnat then it is difficult and risky for you, and in that case you will also lose your money. And then you will be looking for treatment everywhere. if this black magical spell was cast upon you by some woman or man through some taveez/talisman then you can try the reversal spell and keep in mind and say that if it’s through some woman or man, then cast this reversal spell, otherwise dont.

11 times durood, then Sura Abas (as much as you can recite) again durood 11 times in the end. And then say that, whoever has cast black magical spell on me, it should all go back to him/her and should all affect him/her and should stay with them.

Read these verses 11 times, after every prayer below on your hands & body. This ritual will save you from magic effects and give you protection. You may also below on water, use to drink.

If the victim have these symptoms, see bad dreams, feel a little pain in head & whole body, anger and irritation increase, memory loosing and more interrupted sleep/insomnia then its confirm that person is under a strong kind of black magic. He have to write these verses with Mushk Wa Zafran on white or Yellow paper and tie round the nick. after some time he will feel much relax.

He also write these verses with Mushk Wa Zafran, mix in water and daily use to drink 3 times. Carry on same procedure till 21 days. During this time he will be fine day by day. Every Muslim have permission to use this method for magic cure.

There are means of protecting oneself against the dangers of witchcraft before it happens, the most important and beneficial of which is protecting oneself by reciting the dhikrs, du’aa’s and prayers for protection that are prescribed in sharee’ah, such as reciting Aayat al-Kursiy after every obligatory prayer, after the dhikrs that are prescribed after the salaam. It may also be recited when going to sleep. Aayat al-Kurisy is the greatest verse in the Holy Qur’aan, in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning).

“Allaah! Laa ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), Al-Hayyul-Qayyoom (the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists). Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursiy extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great”

One may also recite Qul Huwa Allaahu ahad, Qul ‘Aoodhu bi Rabb il-Falaq and Qul ‘a’oodhu bi Rabb il-naas (i.e., the last three soorahs of the Qur’aan) following every obligatory prayer, and recite these three soorahs 21 times at the beginning of the day, after Fajr prayer, and at the beginning of the night, after Maghrib.

You should also frequently recite du’aa’s seeking refuge in the “perfect words of Allaah from the evil of that which He has created, night and day, when stopping in any place in the city or in the desert, by air or by sea, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever makes a stop then says: ‘A’oodhu bi kalimaat Allaah il-taammati min sharri ma khalaq (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allaah from the evil of that which He has created),’ nothing will harm him until he moves on from that place.”

The jinn are a world of their own, different from that of the humans or the angels . They do, however, possess some characteristics in common with humans, such as the ability to think and reflect. similarly, they also have the ability to chose between the path of good and the path of evil in the same manner as humans. they, though, differ from humans in other characteristics, including one very important characteristic: their origin.

They are called jinn because they are obscured from human sight, (INNA HOO YARLA KUM HOO WA WA qabeela hOO MIN HAISOO LAA TARAO NA HUM) " Lo ! He SeeS you , he and his tribe, from whence you seem not" (al-Araaf  2 7 ).

Their Origin

Allah has informed us that the jinn have been created from fire as He Says in the Quran, (a'al ja'aanna khalaqna hoo min qablu min'naari assamoo mi)'' And the jinn did we creat aforetime of essential fire" (al-hijr 27). in Surah al-Rahman (Verse 15),

He says, ( Wa khalaqa alja'aanna min'ma tijinn min'na rin) "And the jinn He did creat of a smokeless flame of fire". According to Ibn Abbaas, Ikrimah, mujaahid, Al-Hasan and others the meaning of  marajin-min-nar, is "the extermity of the flame,'' and in one narration it is described as the purist and best (of fire).' An-Nawawi said in this commentary to sahih muslim, "The smokeless flame of fire is that mixed with the blackness of the fire."

In a hadith recorded by Muslim on the authority of Aisha, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

( khuliqattil mala'eekatu min noor wa khuliqal jaanu min marjin min naar wa khuliqa adaamu mimma wusifa lakum) "The angels were created from light, the jinn were created from a smokeless flame of fire and adam was created from what has been described to you [ by Allah in the Quran]."

There is no doubt that the jinn were created before mankind, as Allah says,

"Verily we created man of potter's clay of dark mud altered. And the jinn did we created aforetime of a flameless fire" (al-Hijr 26-27). This verse clearly states that the jinn we created before mankind. some of the earlier scholars were of the opinion that they were created a thousand year before mankind, but for that statement they have no proof in ether the Quran or the sunnah.

The names for the jinn in the Arabic language

Ibn Abdul Barr said, " The jinn according to the scholars of the language, are of different types:

1. If one is mentioning the jinn purely of themselves, they are called jinni

2. If one is mentioning the jinn that live among mankind, they are called aamar whoes plural is ammar whoes plural is ammar
3.If one is mentioning the ones that antagonize the young, they are called arwaah
4.If one is mentioning the evil ones that  antagonize humans they are called shaitaan for the singular [and shayateen for plural].
5. If they cause even more harm and become strong, they are called afreet.

Types of jinn

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said,

"There are three types of jinn: one that files through the air, one that are snakes and dogs, and one which stay in places and travel about."

There is no room for the denial of the existence of the jinn

A small number of people absolutely deny the existence of another being known as jinn. some of the polytheists cl aimed that the meaning of jinn was the souls of the planets.

some of the philosophers claim that the jinn are the evil inclinations in the souls of mankind in the same way that the angels are the inclination for good in the souls of mankind.

Some of the modern-day people allege that the jinn are the bacteria and microbes that modern science has recently discovered.

Muhammad al-Bahi, in his commentary on Surah al-jinn, says that the jinn are the angels. to him, the jinn and angels are one existence without any difference between them. His proof is that the angels also cannot be seen by mankind. Except that the includes among the jinn those who hide from the world of human beings concerning their belief or disbelief and their good or evil.

Not possessing knowledge concerning them is not a type of proof

The most that these deniers can say is that they have no knowledge concerning their existence. but not having any knowledge about them is not a proof that they do not exist.' they mind that denies everything that it does not know of certainly is blameworthy  In fact, that is a reason why Allah blames the unbelievers. Allah says in the Quran,''Say, but they denied that, the knowledge whereof they could not compass." ( yunus 39 ).

This thought is a modern invention that no one should be obstinate enough to stick to. Is it permissible for man who has live hundreds of year to reject their possibility even if a trustworthy person informs him of it? Was our lack of hearing the sounds that go on throughout the world evidence that those sound did not exist until the radio was invented and gave us the ability to hear and confirm those sounds?

The truth of the matter

The correct position is that the jinn are a third type of being, apart from angels or humans. They are intelligent and understanding creatures; they are not philosophical accidents or germs and are not like the microorganisms. they are responsible for their actions and have been ordered by Allah to perform some deeds and to abstain from others.

1. Mutawatir [Undeniable agreement about their existence by different groups of people]

Ibn Taimiya says in majmu al- fatwa, None of the different groups of Muslims have differed about the existence of the jinn, nor in the fact that Allah sent Muhammad as a messenger to them also . The majority of the different group of the unbelievers  also confirm their existence. And the people of the book from among the jews and the christians also accept their existence in the same way as the Muslims do, even though one may find  some among them who will deny their existence, but in the same way one can find among the Muslims some who deny their existence like the jahamiyya and the mutazila.

But the majority of the sects and their leading scholars accept their existence. This is because the reports about their existence have come in a mutwaatir manner from the Prophets which necessitates automatic and certain knowledge. It is also known with certainty that they are alive, thinking and acting by choice. They have been ordered to do certain deeds and have been prohibited from certain other deeds. they are not attributes or characteristics of humans or other creatures, as some of the "atheists" claim.

Since the matter of the jinn is something narrated in muawaatir from the Prophets, the scholars and masses know about them and no group that claims any relationship with a messenger may deny them.'

on page 13 he also wrote, All of the groups of the Muslims acknowledge the existence of the jinn, as do the majority of the people of the book (jews and christians), the polytheists among the Arabs and other from the children of ham ( the son of noah). similarly, the majority of canaanites and the Greek from the children of yaafith believe in them. Therefore, the majority of all people accept their existence.

2. Quranic and Hadith statements about them.

[There are numerous statements in the Quran and hadith that affirm the existence of the jinn.] For example, Allah says in quran,

"Say ( O Muhammad) : It is revealed unto me that a company of the jinn listened" (al-jinn 1). Allah also says,"And indeed (O Muhammad) individuals of mankind used to invoke the protection of individuals of the jinn, so that they increased them in revolt" (al-jinn 6). Infact, there exist many statements about them in the Quran and hadith, and we shall mention most of them in the rest of this work, Allah willing

3. Eyewitness Accounts.

Many people of our times and of the previous times have witnessed something of the jinn, even though many who had seen them or who had heard them were not aware that they were jinn. They thought that they were ghosts, spirits, invisible men, creatures from outer space and so forth.

Many trustworthy narrators, of the present day and previously, have narrated events concerning them. the famous scholar of hadith, al-Amash said, "A jinn appeared among us. i said to him, ' what is your favourite food?' He said,  'Rice.' we brought some to him and i would see the spoon go up and down but could not see any one. I said, 'Do you also have people of desires [and innovations] among you like what we have?' He said, 'yes' i said, 'what is the situation of the Rafidha [ extremeshia] among you.' He said, ' They are the worst of us."

Ibn Kathir wrote, after recording the above story, " I presented its chain to our teacher abu al-Hajjaj al-mizi. He said, ' the chain is authentic back to al-Amash.'Then he said, 'Ibn Asaakeer recorded in the biography of al-Abbas Ibn Ahmad al-Dimishqi that he said, 'I  heard some off the jinn recite, 'The hearts are in pain until they connect with their beloved and are with Him in any place, in the West or East; They are filled with the love of Allah, and Allah is their lord, they are connected to Allah and not to anything of his creation."

I [Dr. al-Ashqar] add: many trustworthy people have told me about their speaking with the jinn and their seeing them. Allah willing, some of these events will be mentioned later in this work where we will discuss the ability of the jinn to take on different forms.

4. The source from which they were created.

The messenger of Allah (peace be upon him ) has informed us that the angels were created from light and the jinn were crheated from fire. He made a distinction between their two sources. This refutes the claim of those who says that the jinn and the angels are nothing but one and the same being.

Donkey and Dogs see the jinn

even though we humans do not see the jinn, some animals, like dogs and donkeys, can see them. it is recorded in Musnad Ahmad and Sunan Abu Dawud with a sahih chain from Jabir that the Prophet said,

If you hear the bark of dogs or the braying of donkeys during the night, seek refuge in Allah from Satan, as they see what you do not see.'' This is not strange as many scientists have confirmed that animals are capable of many things that humans are not capable of. Bees can see ultraviolet light and can also see the sun on an overcast day. An owl can see a mouse running in a crowded corn patch on a dark night.

Satan and the jinn

satan, which Allah mentions to us many times in the Quran, is from the world of the jinn. He lived among the angels in the heavens. He entered paradise. But then he disobeyed Allah when he refused to prostrate to Adam  out of pride, arrogance and envy. Therefore Allah cast him out of from his mercy.

Satan, in the Arabic language, is a general term for any arrogant rabel. It is used, in general  for that one specific being because he was so arrogant and rebelled against his Lord. He is called taaghoot in al-Nisaa, verse 76,

"Those who believe do battle for the cause of Allah; and those who disbelieve do battle for the cause of taaghoot. So fight the minions of the devil. Lo, the devil's strategy is weak." Taaghoot is a word that is well-Known to many of the people of the earth, with exactly the same lettering, according to al-Aqaad in his book Iblees. He is called a taaghoot because he has transgressed the limits, rebelled against his Lord and tried to set him self up as a god to be worshipped. Satan has despaired of any chance of mercy from Allah and for that reason Allah has named him Iblees. Alabalas means he has no good in him. and ublis means despaired and lost. Many of the early scholars have mentioned that his name before he disobeyed his Lord was azaazeel. Allah knows best how correct that is.

Satan, the created

The one who studies the Quran and in the hadith knows that satan is one of Allah's creation and he has a mind, ability to understand, he moves and so forth. He is not like what some of the ignorant have claimed, "an evel spirit that takes the shape of the evil conscience animalistic part of man, who leads the person when it takes the place of the spiritual, good conscious in the heart."

His Origin

We have already stated that satan is a jinn. Some modern and past writers have disputed this point. They use as a proof the statement of Allah,

"And when we said unto the angels: Prostrate yourselves before Adam  they fell prostrate, all save Iblees. He demurred through pride, and so became an unbeliever" (al-Baqara 34) . [They also quote] other similar verses in which Allah makes an exception from the angels of Iblees. and they argue that if he is being excepted from a group, it must have been that he was a member of that group as this is the customary mode of speech.

in many books of Quran commentaries and book of history we find narrations from many scholars on this point. They mention that satan was among the angels and that he was the treasurer of paradise or of the lowest heaven. He was the most noble and honorable of the angels and so forth. Ibn katheer states in his commentary of the Quran,

These stories have been related from many of the early scholars. Most of them are from Jewish and Christian legends ( Ar., Zsraaeeliyaat) which must be investigated more closely. Allah alone knows the truth of most of these types of reports. Many of them are clearly false since they contradict the truth that we possess in our hands [that is, the Quran and the hadith of the prophet]. Whatever the Quran contains is sufficient and we need not delve in to the stories of the earlier peoples. Their reports have not been safe from changes, additions and deletions. They have fabricated many things in their reports.

They did not have among them those trustworthy people who safeguarded their scriptures and reports from being contaminated by the extremists and others as this nation ( of Islam  has had. This nation has had scholars, experts, leaders, memorizers, preservers and pious people who recorded the hadith and scrutinized them, making clear which of them are authentic, acceptable, weak, rejected , fabricated,  false. They were familiar with who the forgers were and who were the unknown narrators  who should  not be considered fully trustworthy. All of that is due to the position of the Prophet Muhammad and the fact that he is the seal of all the Prophet and leader of mankind. Therefore forgeries and interpolations have not been able to be attributed to him and to be accepted by the scholars. concerning their proof that Allah excepted Iblees from the angels, it is not a definitely the case as Allah states that Iblees was one of the jinn.

Allah says in the Quran, "And remember when we said unto the angels; Fall prostrate before Adam  and they fell prostrate, all save Iblees. He was of the jinn, so he rebelled against his Lord's command'' (al-kahf 20) . Furthermore, it has also been confirmed from an authentic text that the jinn are not the same as the angels or as the humans. The prophet said, "The angels have been created from light, the jinn from fire and Adam was created from clay." (This was recorded in sahih muslim).

Al-Hasan al-Basri said, "Iblees was not from the angels even for the blinking of an eye." Ibn taimiya said, "Verily , satan was from the angels with respect to his appearance, but not with respect to his origin, and not with respect to him being of the same nature as them"

Was satan the origin of the jinn or was he just one of them ? We do not possess any clear text that states satan to have been the origin of all the jinn or that states that he was simply one of them. The latter is more apparent from the Quranic statement,

"Except Iblees and he was of the jinn" ( al-kahf50). Ibn Tamiya is of the opinion that satan was the origin of all the jinn in the same way that Adam is the origin of all mankind.

The food and Drink of the jinn

The jinn, and satan among them, eat and drink. in sahih al-Bukhari it is recorded on the authority of Abu huraira that the Prophet (peace be upon him) told him to get some stones in order for the prophet ( peace be upon him) to clean him self after defecation.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) told Abu Huraira, "Do not bring me bones or dung." Abu Huraira asked the prophet (peace be upon him ) why he specifically mentioned not to bring those two items. "The Prophet ( peace be upon him ) told him, "They are food for the jinn. A delegation of Naseeb came to me, and what nice jinn they are, and asked me about their provision. I supplicated to Allah for them that they would never pass by dung or bones except that they would find meat upon them." and it is recorded in sunan at-Tirmidhi, with a sahih chain, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Do not clean your selves with dung or with bones for they are food for your brothers among the jinn"

And in sahih Muslim it is recorded from Ibn Masud that a messenger from the jinn came to the prophet (peace be upon him) and he went with them. The Prophet (peace b upon him) read to them some Quranic verses. The prophet (peace be upon him) showed the people  the remains of their embers. They asked the prophet (peace be upon him) about their provisions and he told them, "Every bone on which the name of Allah has been mentioned will have meat on it for you. And the dung are fodder for your animals."

Then he said, "Do not clean your selves with them as they are food for your brothers. The prophet also informed us that the devils eat with their left hands and he ordered us to be different from them in this respect. Muslim recorded in his sahih, on the authority of Ibn umar, that the Prophet ( peace be upon him) said, "If one of you eats, he should eat with his right hand. And if he drinks, he should drink with his right hand. verily, satan eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand." In Musnad Ahmad, the following hadith is recorded,

The World of the Jinn and Devils

"whoever eats with his left hand, satan eats with him. And whoever drinks with his left hand, satan drinks with him." The following hadith is also recorded in Musnad Ahmad, "If the man enters his house and mentions the name of Allah upon entering it and upon eating therein, satan says, " I have found loading for you." And he does not mention Allah's name upon eating his meal, satan says, 'I have found  lodging and a meal. " This hadith was also recorded by muslim. these hadith are clear texts that definitely prove that the devils eat and drink.

In the same manner that it is prohibited for man to eat any meat that has not had the name of Allah  pronounced over it, the messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) permitted the believing jinn to eat any bone that has had the name of Allah pronounced over it. they are not permitted to eat meat over which Allah's name has not been mentioned.

All that has been eaten without having the name of Allah mentioned over it Provides food  for the non-believing jinn who are the devils. In other words, the devils seek as permissible all the food  that has not had the name of Allah mentioned over it. This is why many scholars are of the opinion that carrion that have died by themselves are food for the devils because the name of Allah was not mentioned over them. Ibn Qayyim concludes from the verse of the Quran,

"o" you who believe  strong drink and games of chance and idols and divinning arrows are only an infamy of satan's handiwork. Leave it aside in order that you might succeed' ( al- Maaidah 90), that intoxicating liquros are the beverages of the devils. And it is the drink that he orders his patrons to drink, and he participates with them in that action, in its drinking, its din and its eventual punishment.

Do the jinn marry and procreate

It is apparent that the jinn do have saxual intercourse. to prove this, some of the scholars refer to the description of the spouses in paradise. Allah says concerning them, " Therein are those of modest gaze, whom neither man nor jinn will have touched before them"  (al-rahmaan 60 ). the author of Lawaami al-Anwaar al-Bahiya mentions a hadith which deserves a closer look to see at its chain to see whether it is authentic or not . the hadith states, "The jinn have children in the same way that the sons of Adam have children, but theirs are more in number.' This was related by ibn Abu Haatim and Abu al-shaikh in al-udhma on the authority of Qataada. ' Regardless of whether or not this hadith is authentic, the verse above is clear that the jinn have intercourse and that satisfies us as proof. Some people allege that the jinn do no eat, drink or have sex, but that claim is falseas we have shown in our clear proofs from the quran and the sunnah.

Some scholars are of the opinion that there are different types of jinn and some of them do eat or drink while others do not. wahb Ibn Munabih said, "The jinn are of different kinds. One is a pure jinn, and that is like a wind that does not eat or drink, nor does it die or procreate  And there is a class of them that does eat, drink, procreate and has sex and dies. And those are those female demons and desert demons and similar others." This was recorded by ibn Jarir at Tabair but what wahb said is itself in need of evidence and cannot be considered a proof on its own.

Many scholars have delved into the nature of their eating: is it similar to that of the humans, do they swallow or is it by sniffing and so forth. It is a mistake and not allowed to delve into such matters  and we are not required to know about such things. neither Allah or his Messenger ( peace be upon him) have informed us of such matters.

Marriage between the jinn and humans

one still hears about some man marrying a jinn or some woman marrying one of the jinn or a woman being proposed to by one of the jinn. Al-Suyooti mentioned many such reports from the early generations and scholars pointing to the existence of marriages between humans and jinn.Ibn Taimiya said,

"Humans and jinn have gotten married and have had children, this has happend often and is well-known" Assuming it is possible, many of the scholars showed a dislike for such a marriage. Scholars such as al-Hasan, Qutaada, al- Hukum and Ishaaq were known to have shown a dislike for it. Imam Malik  could not find any text that would prohibit it but he himself did not like for it to occur and he gave his reasons for saying so, " I hate that it would b the case that we  would find a woman who is pregnant and we ask her, 'who is your husband ?' and she replies, 'One of the jinn.' Much evil would be the result of that.''

A group of people are of the opinion that it is not permitted to marry from the jinn. From the blessings of Allah is that he created for man kind spouses of their own spices. Allah save in the Quran. "And of his signs is this:  He created for y mates from yourselves that you might find rest in them, and He ordained between you love and mercy" (al-Room21 ).

If it could occur, it would not be possible to have that companionship and love between the spouses due to their different spices. The goal and wisdom of marriage would not be attainable since the tranquillity and love mentioned by Allah in the Quran would be impossible In any case, although people claim that such marriages occur presently and have occurred in the past, if such does occur  it is rare and strange.

Furthermore, the one who performs it must seek the Islamic ruling concerning it. it could be the case that the one who does it is, in a sense, overpowered and has no to escape that situation. And what points to the possibility of marriage between the two species is the mention of the female companions in paradise. Allah says about them,

"Whom neither man nor jinn have touched before them" (al-Rahmaan 56). And this verse point to both the jinn and mankind being equally suitable for them.

DO the Devil die?

There is no doubt that the jinn, and the devils among them, do die. the following Quranic verse applies to them, "Everyone that is therein will pass away; There remains but the countenance of your Lord of Might and Glory. Which is it, of  the favours of your Lord, that you deny?" (al-Rahmaan 26-28).

In sahih al-Bukhari it is reported from Ibn Abbas that the Prophet used to say, "I seek refuge, by your Glory, the One, whom there is no other god but you, the one who does not die, and mankind do die." Concerning the length of their lives, we do not know much except what Allah has said concerning the accursed satan who has been given respite and life until the Day of judgement.

Allah says, "He said: Reprieve me till the day when they are raised (from the dead). He said: Lo! you are of those reprieved" (Al-Asaaf 14-15). concerning other jinn or devils, we do not know their lifespans. But we do know that their lifespans are longer than that of the humans. Further evidence that they do die is the report that Khaalid ibn Waleed killed the devil of al-Uza ( atree that the arabs used to worship). And a companion killed a jinn that took the shape of a serpant, as shall be discussed later.

The residence of the jinn and their places and the times that they can b found

The jinn live upon the same earth as humans do. Most of them can be found among the ruins and dilapidated areas, as well as the places where there are many impure things, such as, bathrooms, hashish dens, the places of the camels, cemteries. For that reason, as Ibn Taimiya said, those people who are close to satan usually inhibit such areas. There are hadith that say that one should not pray in bathrooms due to the impurities present and because it is the abode of setan, or in cemeteries as the leads to polytheism and it is also a home for the devils.

Many of them are in the places which may b sources of evil, such as the marketplaces. The prophet( peace be upon him) gave the following advice to one of his companions, "If you can, do not be the first one to enter the marketplace. And do not be the last to leave it. For they are the places of satan and there in he raises his banner." This hadith was recorded in sahih Muslims.

The devils live in the same houses in which people live. One can stop them from entering or repel them from such houses by mentioning Allah upon entering those houses, by remembering or mentioning Allah (Ar., dhikr), reciting the quran, in particular, surah al-baqara and "The verse of the Throne" ( verse 255 of that surah ).

The prophet ( peace be upon him) stated that the devils spread out and roam about increasingly when the dark first comes, and, therefore, he has advised Muslim to bring in their children during that period of time. This is stated in a hadith that was recorded by both Al-Bukhari and muslim.

And the devils run away from the call to prayer and cannot stand listening to it. And in the month of Ramahdaan they are chained.

The places where the devil sit or gather

The devils love to sit between the shade and the sunlight. For this reason the prophet (peace be upon him) forbade the Muslims to sit in such places. This hadith was recorded in the books of sunan and other works and it is sahih.

The animals of the jinn

In the hadith of Ibn Masud, recorded in sahih muslim, the jinn asked the prophet about their provisions. He told them, " Every bone on which the name of Allah is recited is your provision. The time it will fall in your hand it would be covered with flesh. And the dung of ( the camels) is fodder for your animals.'' Thus the prophet ( peace be upon him) has informed us that they possess animals and that the fodder for their animals is the dung of the animals of mankind.

Specific animals that the devils accompany

The devils accompany some animals. Such as camels. The prophet (peace be upon him) said, " verily the camel has been created from devils. And behind every camel is a devil.'' For this reasons, the prophet ( peace be upon him) has prohibited us from praying in the pastures of the animals. It is recorded in Musnad Ahmad and Sunan Abu Dawud that the prophet  ( peace be upon him) said, "Do not pray in the pasture of the camels, for they are from the devils. But pray in the fields of the sheep, for they are blessed ," Ibn majah recorded in his Sunan, with a sahih chain, "Do not pray in resting places' of the camels [that they go to after being] watered, for they have been created from the devils.''

These hadith refute the claims of those who state that the reason it is forbidden to pray in the places of the camels is that their urine and dung are impure. Actually, the urine and the dung of any animals that is permissible to eat is not considered impure.

Black Magic Treatment

Sihr is so called because
its means are hidden or secret, and because the practitioners of sihr deal with things in secret which enable them to perform illusions to confuse the people and deceive their eyes, and to cause them harm or steal their money, etc., in a secretive manner so that in most cases nobody realizes what is happening. Hence the last part of the night is called sahar, because at the end of the night people are unaware and they do not move about much. And the lungs are also called sahr, because they are hidden inside the body.

Sihr is an agreement set up between magician and satan, which stipulates thtat the magician commit certain illegal or polytheistic acts, in the return for satan assistance and obedience fulfilling the magician request. The basic meaning of sihr is to make something appear in a form other than its real one. Arabs have given it the name sihr because. it can transform good health in to illness. All magic is Haraam, it is a major sin.

Black magic is a disease which affects you according to the condition of the soul. Just like a disease will affect you according to the condition of your immune system. This type of magic does not refer to the illusions that are shown on tv.Magic and occult practices are never carried out for goodness but instead are the reasons for destruction. this problem has intensified a lot in the last few years, and many are suffering all over the world, totally unaware of the attacks made by no other than their closest friends, acquaintances and relatives. many prosperous happy families are ruined by magic.

Magician write some Quranic verses with filth, some write them using menses discharge, some write them under their feet and use as footwear to go to the toilet. However, if the Magician abstains from committing acts of disbelief, as instructed by Satan, the latter will stop executing the Magician orders.

The Magician and Satan are therefore, two accomplices in disobeying Allah. The darkness of kufr covers Magician face like a black cloud. If you get close to him, you will discover that he lives in a psychological misery with his wife and children, and even with himself. He cant sleep peacefully at night with a clear conscience. He often wakes up in a terrified state several times at night, most of the times demons harm his children, wife and cause division and marital squabbles.

CATEGORIES OF MAGIC

The relation between goodness – badness, evil – good and right – wrong is as similar to day and night: both of them are incomplete and useless with out each other and at the same time, no one can deny their existence. Those creations inhering only goodness, rightness, uprightness, and which are error free are angels. And contrary to this those creations that are full of evil, and no matter of goodness is found – are devils, jinn, Mephistophelean spirits and malefic creations. And the creations that are conglomeration of both these are human beings.

Magic and occulent practices are never carried out for goodness but instead are the reasons for destruction. The core aim of doing this is to tease the God’s creation, penalize them and to enforce them to obey one’s order. The knowledge of goodness (norani) is the product of certain amliyat, wazaif, Duroods, and the Holy Quran and on the other hand, magic is the product of mantras, evil studies, evil reclusions etc. and by reciting which a person becomes strayed.

ONE: The sihr of the chaldeans who used to worship the seven plants, believing that these planets controlled the world and where behind the forces of good and evil. these people were the ones to whom the Messenger Ibrahim was sent.

TWO: The sihr of people who have fantasies and hallucinations. Ar-Razi argued hpw fantasy may have an effect on people. For instance, a man may be able to walk on the trunk of tree on the ground surface, but cant do so if the trunk is placed alongside a river of similar place.

The common advice of doctors to a person with a nosebleed not to look at red objects and to a possessed person not to look at bright or revolving objects in simply because, man's soul has been created weak and is submissive to fantasies.

THREE: Seeing the assistance of worldly spirits ( the jinn ) who are two types; believers, and the disbelievers who are domons. Professionals and experts in the field hold that communicating with these worldly is achieved by simple means such as Ruqya using words of disbelief and polytheism, and smoke. This type of magic is known as sihr of Taskhir, which is using the assistance of inn in performing acts of sihr.

FOUR: This type includes the performance of magic and eye-catching trickery. It is based on tricking eye and preoccupying it solely with the object viewed. A skilled magician can perform a trick that stuns the minds of viewers and catches their eyesm leaving them preoccupied with gazing at an object; thereby immediately performing another trick, which appears them other than what they are expecting, and are; thus, left dumbfounded, If the magician remains silent, dose not say things which distract the minds of the viewers, they would be aware of all the tricks he had intended to perform.

FIVE: Marvelous objects such as a geometrically made arwork. For Exmple, a knight riding on a horseback, holding a horn in his hand, appearing to blow every hour. This type, including the construction of a clock mechanism should not be considered as part of magic, because it is based on positive causes, and if man understands science better, he will be able to produce more advanced machines. These things have became known now following the advance of technology which has been the driving force behind the invention of a number of marvellous objects.

SIX: The magician use to specfic medication on food and oinments. Bear in mind that there is no gainsaying the effect of such medication, as the effect of hypnotism is clear.

SEVEN: The sahir claims that he knows the supreme name of God ann that the jinn obey his commands in many things. if the person listener to the sahir weak-minded, and less perceptive, then he would believe that what the sahir may tell him is the truth. Thus, a listener is attached to what he believes is the truth, and so could be easily frightened. Once fear is insilled, his sensory perception is weakened, and the sahir would be capable of doing whatever he wishes.

AGREEMENT BETWEEN MAGICIAN AND DEMON

In most cases, an agreement is set up between a magician and a demon, requiring that the former commit certain pagan rituals, whether secretly or openly, and the latter provide the services he need or send someone to do the job. Usually, the agreement is set up between a magician and one of  the chiefs of the tribe of jinn and demons. The chief instructs one of the tribe's disrespectful demons to work fot the magician, obeying his orders and informing him of past events, causing separatation of a man from his wife, a love spell between two people, making someone incompetent.

The magician should send the demon on an evil mission, but if the demon disobeys his orders, he would come close ro the chief if the tribe through some enchantments which would carry words of praise, seeking refuge in him instead of Allah in return, the chief would punish the demon and command him to obey the magician orders, of instruct someone elase to obey the poltheisstic sahir.

Therefore, the relationship between magician and the recuited jinn is based on hatred. Usually, this jinn would harm the magician wife, children or wealth, or even the sahir himself; although the magician would not be aware of the cause of his suffering; such as constant pain, insomnia and the sudden frightful waking-up during the night.

Treatment of Black Magic and Possessions or Demonic Influence

The complete procedure of Islamic Exorcism is explained in about eight different steps, and below is the summary of steps that are applicable to either the ‘Exorcist’ or the ‘Victim’.

Step 1:The victim(and/or exorcist or the person doing the exorcism) should purify and cleanse his body and his house from all Sins. One should firstly clean and dispose all items/things in their premises like dog, bell, musical instruments, pictures/painting/dolls of living people and animals; non-Islamic taweez or amulets hanging around anyone or in house etc, then offer 2 units of ‘Salatul Tauba’ and sincerely repent for all his sins. One should also check the list of major sins[like haram food and drink, adultery, disobedience to parents or husband, music and dancing, zina of eyes i.e watching un-islamic videos, zina of tongue..etc, visiting astrologer/ fortuneteller /magician, living on unlawful earning etc] that could block Allah’s mercy and blessings and one needs to abstain from them and sincerely repent to ALlah and ask His forgiveness.

Step 2: Neutralize and destroy any magical amulets, taweez or strings/thread or any magical items.

Magical amulets usually have jinns tied to them, if they are found and destroyed the effects of the Sihir will fade away InshaAllah. If the victim finds or has any magical amulets in his body or houses, he should destroy it by following the steps below:

  1. Get some water or kitchen vinegar.
  2. Recite Aytul Kursi 1x and last three Surah / last three Quls 7x to 11x each and give 3x powerful blows into the water/vinegar.
  3. Reciting Ya Salaamu[O Giver of Peace] continuously, pour some recited water/vinegar over the place from where the amulet was retrieved.
  4. Reciting Ya Salaamu[O Giver of Peace] continuously, dismantle the amulet completely i.e cut it or break it, to separate the casing from the writing or script or incantations written on paper or cloth or leather of the amulet.
  5. Submerge, all the pieces of the amulet completely into the recited water/vinegar and place some heavy stone over it so that it gets submerged properly.
  6. Leave it for over 24 hours submerged, preferably outside the premises of the victim’s house.
  7. Dump the casing into garbage and check if writing/scipt is visible, dry it slightly and then burn it before dumping it into river, or sea or burying it somewhere in the ground outside the house[burning is to prevent disrespect of any quranic verses if present on the amulet].
  8. InshaAllah, this will neutralize and release the tied Jinn’s from the amulet and the magic will be broken.

Step 3: The victim(and/or exorcist or the person doing the exorcism) should strengthen his faith and trust on Allah and then create protective shields around himself: To strengthen the faith and trust on Allah, offer 5 times salat, give as much as charity as possible for the sake of Allah, spend times in morning and evening reciting Istiqfar, Darood and Zikir ‘La-elah-el-lal-lah’ as much as one can. To create protective shield around one self recite

-Dua of Protection – ‘A’oozu bi-ka-li-maa-til-laa-hit-taam-maati min sharri maa kha-laq Wa-la-huw-la Wala-khu-wa-ta El-la-bil-la-hil-‘Ali-yil-‘Azeem

[I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from the evil of what He has created and there is no Power or Might except Allah; the High, the Great;]

excessively and especially 3x after every salat and also during times of anger, fear and anxiety. This will not only create a protective shield around the body but will also weaken the nesting Jinns in the body and will also force them to leave and will also ruin all the plans of the magicians and his paymaster, MashaALlah. Also recite this dua 3x or 7x times and blow it on the hands and rub it over the entire body once before doing the amal, to prevent counter attacks from the jinns.

Step 4: Create Protective shield around the House: Apart from practicing the amal mentioned above, the victims in-order to neutralize and banish all kinds of evil jinn in their premises, should play Surah Baqarah[2] (if not available play Manzil) on a computer or any audio or stereo system or mobile at-least once every day or night for 7 to 21 days in a row without any gaps, it will have devastating effect on the Jinn’s in the house and will force them to leave, MashaAllah.

For protecting our homes against any Jinn and Magic as per the hadith one should recite Aytul Kursi and last two verses of Surah Baqrah once or thrice every morning and every evening consistently every day with the intentions of “Protecting, safety and security of the house and its people against all evils”.

Step 5: Items required for the AMAL or Holy Ritual And Procedure to use them

Items required:

  1. Drinking water or ZamZam Water: After the amal/ritual the victim will use this water for drinking, washing and spraying(inside the house).
  2. 3 whole Lime [not lemon or orange] or cup of apple cider vinegar for every bath.
  3. About 7 Leaves of Indian Baierie tree[leaves of red berry fruit tree] or Lotus or Jujube or sidir or neem or Custard Apple or betel(pan) leaves or a mixture of leaves from various trees .
  4. Crush them with a stone or a machine and extract all the juice. This should be added for every bath.
  5. Olive oil or Mustard oil or Black seed oil[optional]:This is optional and could be used on patients who are bedridden and cannot take a bath. Some Olive oil or Mustard oil or Black seed oil, after doing any of the below mentioned amal’s, 3x powerful blows should be done on the oil. This recited oil should then be rubbed on limbs, stomach, back, neck and traces on the forehead of the patient mornings and evenings.
  6. Non-Alcoholic Rose essence or oil or perfume[optional]: Few drops can be added to the water, while bathing or rinsing the body and few drops can be added to the water while spraying inside the house. The advantage of using perfume it that since the evil jinn/ shayateen dislike good smell and perfume’s, using them will have a devastating effect on them.
  7. Crystalline salt or Rock Salt[optional]: Few spoons of salt can be added to the water, while bathing or rinsing the body and few spoons can be added to the water while spraying inside the house. There is no problem when this is added with other ingredients like rose essence or vinegar..etc

Note: If (3) not available please use only (1) and (2)

Consensus of Exorcist agree that items like lime, vinegar, baierie leaves, black pepper, ginger..etc are known to burn the Jinn’s and we therefore use it with recited water to Mashaallah have a devastating effect on Jinn or group of jinns nesting inside the victims body.

How Much of Water Is Required to Blow after Amal

The water should be sufficient enough to be used for at-least a week for drinking, washing our body and spraying on the house. As the amal will be repeated every 7 to 10 days till the victims becomes normal and no abnormalities are visible.

Drinking: 1 glass in morning and 1 glass in evening: 2 *7 = 14 glasses

Washing: Approx 2 glasses for every wadhu/bath : 2 * 7 =14 glasses

Spraying on house: Approx 2 glasses every day: 2 * 7 = 14 glasses

Please make sure you have additional water so that you don’t run out of water and have to repeat the amal again. Its preferable to have the water in a medium sized plastic can/container’s with lids then can be closed after 3x or more blows are given into the water after the amal, the cans will also ensure that the recited water is safe and free from pollution once the lid is closed.

How to use them:

After the amal is done the reciter/the exorcist should immediately take a deep breath and blow with full pressure 3x or more times on the water[after blowing close the lid of the container saying 'Bismilaah'] every blow should be done with full strength/energy after taking a deep breath so that the waves hit the water, its ok if some spittle enters the water.

The victim should be given at-least one glass of recited water every morning and evening. The victim should drink the recited water daily till he recovers completely. While drinking the water, the victim should recite ‘BISMILLAAHI Ya Shafi[In the name of Allah, O Giver of Cure]‘.

For every spiritual bath, in the evening get one/two glass of recited water squeeze 3 whole lime or equivalent vinegar and add about 7 crushed Baierie leaves[with all the extracted Juice along with the crushed leaves] into the recited water and add additional tap water[approx 1 liters] sufficient enough for the person to make wadhu/ghusul or rinse his body with it.

Before entering the washroom, the victim should recite the ‘dua of entering washroom’ and then make an dua in the heart ” YA HAYYU YA QAYYUM Please cure and purify me from all evil influences of men and jinn that trouble and harm him. Ameen-3x”. The victim should make wadhu / ghusul or rinse his complete body with this mixture in a big bowl or vessel or bucket so that the dirty water can be collected and later thrown on some ground or garden or in pots rather than in drain or bathroom.

This mixture should also be nicely rubbed on the victims head, shoulders, neck, chest, back, stomach and other places of pain and heaviness while bathing [avoid rubbing mixture on eyes as lime /vinegar may cause some burning]. This procedure should be repeated for about 7 to 12 days, every evening. Note: If the victim cannot take bath, try a sponge bath i.e drench a clean towel in a mixture of recited water, lime, baierie leaves and normal water, and wipe it all over the body.

The recited water should also be sprayed on every wall and the ceiling of the house, on beds, curtains, furniture, at the entrance and outer boundaries of the house at-least once every day preferably in the evenings, except inside the bathrooms or washroom or toilets. This should be repeated daily till the patient recovers completely.

Note: Initially during the treatment the things might get worse because the evil jinn may try to retaliate the treatment, however, the victims should undergo the treatment continuously, without any gaps for 11 days, 21days or until things get better. And also save some recited water to recycle it with new water during the next amal.

Let’s start by pointing out some basic differences between Depression and Sadness. In essence, sadness is part and parcel of human life and part of being “human”. It is a normal human emotion that more or less all human beings experience in different phases in their lives. Even holy personalities like Moses, Jesus and Muhammad went through deep sadness. This is just like if a bee comes and stings someone, there will be an immediate reaction.

The Quran, the holy book of Islam, provides ample examples from the lives of different messengers-who were the greatest of all human beings-that they all went through pain, suffering and the resulting sadness in their lives. From that perspective, we can conclude that sadness is “normal”.  According to Islamic teachings, God Himself claims that it is HE who bestows happiness and sadness:

“IT IS HE WHO MAKES YOU LAUGH AND CRY” (QURAN)

But still that immense sadness of Prophets and Messengers (PBUT) didn’t stop them from pursuing their missions even more vigorously. Their sadness didn’t result in hopelessness nor in a state of inaction-in other words, they went through periods of sadness but not depression.

Depression on the other hand, is characterized by hopelessness, loss of meaning in life, self-worthlessness and feeling of sadness without being able to identify the cause of the gloominess in life. The two states of crying and laughing are unique to the Human being, that no other animals shares, and its purpose is to make us reflect on the realities of life. Everyone experiences symptoms of depression, but when the symptoms remain for two weeks or more it is called clinical depression

However, the Quran teaches us, we have to be careful of many of the symptoms of depression even it is for a short time. Depression is the result of not being able to do what we want. It is a sense of loss of freedom & control.

Below we will discuss different types of depressions, and will have solutions to the hopelessness, meaninglessness, self-worthlessness and daily dysfunctional life from an Islamic perspective. All change begins by sees things in a new light. By embracing these truths you will be able to bring light into the gloom of your life.

Some Basic Truths

No human being is burdened with trouble and difficulties they cannot bear. The Quran teaches “(God) will never place a burden on a soul that it can not bear”. This shows that the human being can bear many unthinkable burdens, that one initially feels that they cannot bear. How many times in your life, you felt you cannot take it anymore, but you lived through it? How many humans go through great difficulties in life but live through it?

After every hardship is easeLife is one difficulty after another. One task after another, one issue after another. However, it is important to know that while life tests us, there is ease after hardship. There is the ease of death after the hardship of life, there is ease of sleep after the hardships of the day, there is ease of retirement after the hardship of a career, and everything has a high and a low. What goes up, must come down, likewise, Tough times only mean, the times of ease are near.

The Quran teaches, “The morning light after the stillness of darkness”….when its dark everything seems still as if it will never go away. The fact is nothing remains forever and nothing remains the same. So, after every time of difficulty there is ease. The Quran teaches, “There is ease after hardship, Indeed there is ease after hardship.”

Suffering purifies our humanness

When we go through difficult times, when we have a financial loss, when we lose a loved one, when we struck by bad times, it brings out the real humanness in us, and we begin to ask the very questions that are most fundamental to us, “Why are we here?”, “What is the purpose of life”, “why me”, “What happened to all my plans and dreams, etc. We learn the frailty of our humanness. The Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Look at the ones who are less fortunate then you, not at the ones are more fortunate then you.”

Hunger attracts food. Hunger is a spiritual experience, it is good for the soul, and food is an experience of the body. In the same way, ease and happiness is good liked by the body and is welcomed, and hardships and difficulty are disliked by the body but are very good for the soul. It forces the soul to deal with the difficult questions of life. It helps us to grow as humans, to find and deal with our human frailness. And our human frailness helps us to find our inner most nature.

It’s not the events, which take place that cause happiness or depression-but it’s our inner reflection of our situation that determines our spirituality and our emotional maturity.

You are not in control, but can choose what you want to do Depression happens because of a feeling of helplessness. A feeling that we are not in control; you should embrace that you are not in control at the moment. You should embrace your lack of control over your situation. Most depression occurs because of external situations and how we allow external situations to affect our insides. Perhaps, it’s a good time to turn to the One Who does control everything.

All we ask is you is to, try this… pray to God, even if you don’t believe in God, pray to Him, talk to Him, and you will feel so comforted in your heart. Tell God that you know He is in control. Cry to him. We are taught that by turning to God, we restore ourselves like a dying plant becomes green with water. As an experiment, do this on blind faith and see if it works, say, “All admiration belongs to you, if good comes to me its from you, and if some trouble comes to me its from you, I submit to you, and this situation to you.” Say this even if you do not believe in God, and see how you feel in the inside. Second, you can take action regarding your situation. Life is all about choices; a choice is like putting a seed in the ground that may bare fruit. You put the seed, and the unseen forces bring the rain. Work on what you can do, you can sow the seed, you can make the right choices, and you can start to work in a direction that you want to move in.

Three Days The past is gone forever. The Present is all you have, and the future; leave it for when it comes. The life in this world is short, our time for this life is constantly running out. One of the great scholars of Islam said, “There is only one day separating me and the Kings. As for the yesterday, their taste of it has vanished, and both they and I equally fear what tomorrow will bring. Thus, there is only today. What will today bring?”

Everything is in a Flux, and Most Change is SpontaneousNothing stays the same. The atoms, the celestial bodies in the heavens, air, water, etc, nothing stay the same from one moment to the next. Everything is in a flux, this means people in health will soon face illness, people in illness will soon have relief. Those that are happy today will soon undergo some sadness, and those that are sad will have happiness. Most changes in life are spontaneous; losing a job, death of a loved one, an accident, a terminal illness, etc. This means that your situation will not be the same forever, if you are not in control today, there will come a time where it is.

Belief is the Greatest Cure No pill, counseling session, techniques to cope can compare to a strong belief in God. As long as one believes in a loving God, one has a reason to be optimistic. Belief can give you the ability to handle all sorts of difficult situations. It can give a person the ability to see the positive in the overwhelmingly negative situation. If you do not believe in God, I would suggest to believe in Him, give it a try and see if your outlook on the situation changes for the positive. We all need a something to keep us focused and keep us going, we all need something that bring clarity to our world, all need to hold on to something for support. If there is a God, and there is, there is nothing stronger then the knowledge you can hold on to him to help you cope with your situation.

Also, if there is a God, there must be good in what you are going through, you may not understand that today, but if we look at our past situations in life, we will see how the hard times, made us grow. There is a saying, “God does not create trash.”—Humans being the greatest creation of God, and YOU were an idea God had that came into existence, so your worth is that God thought of you to begin with. Also, God does not forsake His care over his creation and you are His creation.

Expectations Most of our depression happens due to high and sometimes unrealistic expectations. If we can lower our expectations, we minimize the risk of going into depression. If we can minimize our expectation from others-then we really put ourselves in a position of strength and fortify ourselves from being exposed to feelings of being let down, betrayal and rejection-which are strong precipitating factors for losing self esteem, feeling low and going into depression.

Classification of Depression as a Psychiatric Disorder

According to DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical manual Version IV), below are some of the major types of Depression:

Major depressive disorder (also known as clinical depression or major depression)

This is a specific diagnosis from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders by the American Psychiatric Association. |

Here are some sub-categories of major depression:

Atypical depression, a cyclical sub-type of major depression where sleep, feeding and perception of pleasure are normal but there is a feeling of lethargy Melancholic depression a sub-type of major depression characterized by an inability to feel pleasure combined with physical agitation, insomnia, or decreased appetite Psychotic depression, a sub-type of major depression combined with psychotic or delusional perceptions

Depressive Disorder Not Otherwise Specified Postpartum depression, a depressive episode occurring within a year of childbirth Dysthymia, a long-term low-grade depressive condition

Adjustment disorder with depressed mood, previously known as “reactive depression”
Seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a depressed mood related to the seasons Other major categories include Bi-polar Depression (manic Depression) and Dual Diagnosis (Depression along with Substance Abuse).

Dual Diagnosis is most difficult to diagnose and treat because most often people suffering from major depression self medicate using illegal addictive substances and end up seeking therapy for substance use. Once treatment for addiction progresses to an extent, depression comes up to the surface. On other times, depression acts as a catalyst to relapse in substance abuse and maintains the vicious cycle for the victim of dual disorder.

The Quranic Treatment of Depression

Let’s now talk about some of the evidence based reasons why people develop depression

Social Causes of Depression

Family problems: marital problems, parent-child relationship, marital problem and depression of parents affecting their children. Lack of affection, attachment, acceptance and bond within the family. When marriage is not working, it often turns to a stressor, which leads to depression and substance abuse. Depression of one spouse usually affects the other and the marriage. Even if the depressed spouse recovers-he/she is likely to relapse due to unsatisfying marriage. Marital discord often leads to depression and vice-versa, it may also lead to verbal, physical and emotional abuse.

Solution: If you find yourself in this situation then

The first thing to think about is if you need to be in a healthier environment. Never stay in an abusive place.

As a family; try to do activities together like eating, going out to the park, taking a walk, do something spiritual, etc. Do not do things in which the family is not engaged with themselves like watching tv, movie, etc.

Help the family member admit there is a problem

The husband and wife should make a list of their grievances and share it with each other every night or at least every week. Know your triggers. Focus on YOUR own responsibilities, rather then YOUR rights.

Journal and/or find a hobby

Help someone; especially someone in your situation

Take a holiday trip together

Lack of Positive Social Network: Stressful social environments, lack of support network, high expectations and social competition due to cultural norms, ethnicity and social class play a role in overwhelming people and as a result, they become vulnerable to depression. A depressed person turns out to be over-sensitive to social criticism and feed-back, displays low self esteem, becomes dependent on people and constantly seeks re-assurance in a way that drives people away from him/her and thus re-enforces his/her idea that he/she is unworthy as a person.

Solution: If you find yourself in this situation then

Spend a day doing good deeds

Gender Issues: Societal norms regarding gender expectations can be source of stress, especially when women have to play multiple roles like a working mom who has to take care of her family, go to work and may be attending school simultaneously. Research also suggests that women are more likely to get overwhelmed by stressful events than men. Research suggests that single mothers are thrice more prone to depression than married mothers. Relative lack of power and discrimination in workplace, financial stress of low paid jobs, lack of social support network-especially for single mothers, biological factors like menstrual cycle, pregnancy, child-birth and menopause-they all contribute to increased risk of depression in women.

Now, let’s shed some light on how depression is affecting the modern society:

Social Impact of Depression:

Major depression is 4th most disabling condition in the world, and 2nd most in the developed world. As well as the human cost, the burden on society is incredible. At the rate of increase, it will be the 2nd most disabling condition in the world by 2020, behind heart disease. It is estimated 35 to 40 million Americans living today will suffer from major depression at some time during their lives, with about half of this amount suffering from recurring depression symptoms. A major risk outcome of depression is suicide. Here are some facts correlating depression and suicide:

About a quarter of suicides in the US are felt to be due to undiagnosed, or misdiagnosed major depression.

Up to 80% of suicide deaths are in sufferers of major depression.
Given that suicide is the 8th largest cause of death in the US, it’s no wonder that major depression is classed as “the nation’s leading mental health problem”

Islamic Solution to Depression:

Defining Goal of life: Islam teaches us that we should focus our goal on succeeding in our life to come after this life. If we emphasize on the transitory nature of this worldly life-then most of our problems of this life lose it’s importance in our lives and subsequently lose their power of a having negative impact on us.

With difficulty, comes ease.

Everyone needs a support system, and everyone needs a best friend, and everyone need role models.
God never burdens a soul more than it can bear.
Develop gratitude for the blessings that God has given you.
A depressed person needs a source to turn to, turn to God for help, support, mercy and forgiveness.
If there is a God, and there is, only good will become of the negative situation one finds themselves in.
Find out purpose and value in your life and in everything that you’re going through.
Incorporate prayer in your schedule at least twice a day. Talk to God.
Live one day at a time.
Surrender your unmanageable problems and things over which you’ve lost control of to God.
Always Hope in Allah’s mercy.

One should say “al-hamdu lillah” a few hundred times a day. A phrase in the Arabic language that means “All praise and gratitude for God”. Muslims say this phrase when they are in difficult situations.

If we think it is a bad situation, it could have been worse. If we think it is a good situation, it is still a test for us. Everything is from God and we should praise Him often. Thanking Him is one way to praise Him—al-hamdu lillah.
